Woods for All believe in the protection and preservation of wildlife and the environment. This will be achieved though the creation of ancient woodlands throughout the UK and Europe. To support the companys aims Woods for All will be profit making but not profit taking. All profits that are achieved will be reinvested into new preservation projects. Background to Woods for All.
Taldrum Wood was purchased initially for use as a private wood to safeguard it against development and to give the owners grandchildren the chance to experience the kind of freedom he enjoyed in the countryside as a child. After buying Taldrum Wood the owner began to learn more about woodland and how much we in the UK have lost over the decades in terms of our natural and national heritage. It is not an understatement to say that he was shocked by what he found out. (See Biodiversity page) Primarily, whilst we only have 11% of our British woodland left, a mere 3% is |
indigenous native woodland. The remainder is conifer which does not support anywhere near the biodiversity that our native trees and forests do. For example compare the 17 species of flora and fauna supported by a Fir tree with the Oak, which supports 747 species of insect and plant life! He realised that eventually one of his heirs would inherit this land and may not appreciate its true value; they may prefer a Porsche to an ancient wood! So, how do you go about protecting a natural habitat forever in a very simple and effective way? We believe we have found a solution. The solution is to create multiple ownership. For any change to take place the consent and approval of every Share holder would have to be sought. Just one Share holder, saying no, can stop any and all development. No lease, no felling, just genuine freehold ownership. No educational facilities, no information boards, picnic benches or brick built barbeques, no maintenance charge. Just a wood and the wildlife it supports, naturally, without interference forever. In order to protect the biodiversity of Taldrum Wood we will strictly control the number of shares sold. If Taldrum Wood is successful, we will then look for another wood to purchase. It is our sincere hope that together we can really make a difference to the future of forests in the UK. |
